On the heels of last week’s announcement of a new hotel to be developed near Keeshkeemaquah Centre just outside Portage la Prairie, comes news of a truck stop to be established nearby.
Long Plain First Nation Chief Dennis Meeches stresses it won’t happen without support from the city, and the province.
“Because obviously, there’ll have to be some design changes on the Number 1 Highway, as you’re coming into the Keeshkeemaquah urban reserve,” he says, “So we can green light that project, because we have the capital in place. We just need the support of the province, and they city, on that one.”
Meeches stresses they’re ready to go.
“We’ve done the business plan,” he says, “And it’s a very, very positive business plan that was completed for Long Plain First Nation.”
He says they’re prepared to have the truck stop ready in the near future.
